Thank you for visiting, my name is Shane Solberg. I am the founder, co-owner, and president of Sun Mountain Food Works.

I started my professional journey earning a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Business Economics degree. Once completed, I soon began working for Pillsbury in their research and development department as a process design engineer. I was surrounded with very talented people and had a great opportunity to experience every facet of food manufacturing and knew I found my niche.

After many years with Pillsbury, my wife and I made the tough decision to relocate, for family, to Austin, TX. I was approached to start my own facility and with much deliberation and research I took the leap of faith and opened SDF Specialty Foods, Inc.

The demand in the area for a quality facility with knowledgeable persons was overwhelming. I worked many long hours out of a small 40 gallon kettle to ensure our customer orders where completed on time and shipped out safely. As most new business owners will tell you, if you can get through that first year, you've got a good chance to make it!

With many growing pains, life lessons learned, and some bad business encounters, we started to show signs of success. I upgraded our facility with two large boilers, added 3 large kettles (an additional 600 gallons!!!), a large walk-in cooler, new extraction area with overhead crane, induction sealing capability, case taper, an 8-head liquid filler and 4-head piston filler. We put on our payroll a well known area chef and a food scientist to assist HACCP, QC, and GMP standards.

Thus, with all the improvements and the corporate restructuring, we knew it wouldn't be complete without shedding the old name, so we changed it to Sun Mountain Food Works.

We've developed our own recipes which are available for private label and have the capability to reformulate yours. With the high production capacity and the quality control standards we follow, you will be able to take your product to the next level.
